Question
Is a weeping oak and a pin oak the same tree?  My daughter bought me a weeping oak and it looks simular to the pin oak.

Answer
No Weeping oak is Quercus robur (pedunculata) commonly known as the Pedunculate Oak or English oak. It is a a member of the white oak section Quercus. http://www.cnr.vt.edu/DENDRO/dendrology/Syllabus2/factsheet.cfm?ID=551

The Pin oak or Swamp Spanish oak (Quercus palustris) is an oak in the red oak section Quercus.  http://www.cnr.vt.edu/DENDRO/DENDROLOGY/syllabus/factsheet.cfm?ID=74
