Trombone - TB200 or TB300

Expert: Colin Murray - 8/26/2008

Question
Colin - YOu have great trombone knowledge so here is another question for you...
How can I tell the difference by how trombone looks?
The only number is B30878. Can you decode this number somehow and tell me how old it is, and whether that was a good year for Bachs? Etched with Bach USA in top of flare.
It has a hardshell Selmer case which fits the trombone perfectly, but I don't know if it is the original case.

Answer
Hi Judith,

Here's a TB200 in its case:

If you have the black woodshell case, and there's a finger ring under the mouthpiece receiver, you have a TB200, if not, it's a TB300.  You may be able to get up to $500 for a TB200.

Bach doesn't publish their serial number for B series horns, so I can't tell you the age of the trombone, I'm  afraid.

Hope that helps.
