Tropical Plants/pruning

I have  monster selloum and find that if I cut off the lower droopy leaves at the base ( not too many at one time), it ecourages new vertical growth - making it a much more beautiful plant.

I do have to bring it indoors in winter (zone 5) and that is getting harder to do each year as it is truly HUGE!
