Trucking - driving tractor trailer

Expert: J. P. Long - 2/23/2006

Question
learning to drve tractor trailer any tips on reversing

Answer
Hi Wally,  Just a couple tips.  When backing try to always
position the tractor to the left of trailer so can see down
the driver's side.  Keep the back corner of trailer in sight
Also remember to watch right side in mirrors so as not to hit anything on right side as backing.  Try to avoid backing from the "blind side" - tractor to right of front of trailer.  Better to drive around block, etc than back from "blind side".  After training, good to have some one in front watching as you back and directing you until you gain lots of experience. Backing is probably the hardest part of truck driving.  Speaking with 50 yrs experience.
Good Luck and hope this helps.  J P Long
