About Mike Pawul
Expertise I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in five bands and have several "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay
Experience I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Question
Hello I bought a Getzen 700s for $400.00 ( no dents or scratches) about 3 months ago. I know it's great horn but what i'm trying to figure out is if my trumpet is considered professional or intermediate. I know the 700SP or 700 Special is and intermediate trumpet but it seems like most people think these two trumpets are the same. I like your professional opinion about the subject. Also i heard Getzen designed the 700s around the old Severson Models is that true?
thank you, Joshua Niswonger
Answer Joshua, The 700 was designed after the 900 model with some changes over the years. The 700 has had designations change and the 700S and 700SP are not the same as when they first came out. The best way I can describe it is that the one with 2 braces on the tuning slide is more of a pro sound and feel that the one that has one brace. The two horns are based on the same design but the brass is a little different composition and the bracing makes a big difference.
