Question Dear Sir, Frankie,
Recently(it seems like at least a couple of weeks ago),I wrote two enquiries to you, about 2 separate trumpets. One a Besson and another a Yamaha. I have been checking my e-mail for replies. None came forth so far.I am not being impatient. Am wondering. Did you receive my inquiries/requests? If so, when may I expect to receive the replies? Also, will it be to my given e-mail address? Thanking you in advance for your anticipated reply.
Kind regards,
Marta L.,Portland, OR
Answer Hi Marta,
I have just been back through my previous answers and found this one - posted some weeks ago. It looks like yours. Maybe you had better send me details of the Besson again. I can't understand why you did not receive this one re the Yamaha. It was sent back through the forum within a couple of days after getting it.

Subject: Yamaha Trumpet-Age & Value
Question: Hello Frankie,
Would you please determine age, quality and value (for insurance replacement as well as resale purposes) of our other trumpet, a YAMAHA brass trumpet, w. silver valve buttons w. mother of pearl on top of buttons.: YTR 6335 Japan
201020
With "YAMAHA, Japan" (hard) trumpet case.
Again, purchase from private owner in Canada. For resale value purposes, we are now in Oregon, U.S.A.
Thanking you again in advance for your anticipated assistance.
Marta
Answer: Hi Marta.
(I remember the old song, "Marta, Rambling Rose of the Wild Wood". Somewhat of a classic in the old English tradition.)
The YTR 6335 was - and still is - very much a damn good professional horn. I am assuming it has a gold lacquer finish, as opposed to the 6335S which has a silver plate.
You will have to be very careful when selling this instrument. Currently the 6335 is selling for about $750-850 on eBay, but the horn is actually worth far much more than that.
You do not say how much you paid for it and that may help me establish a value. Putting a price on a horn can be very difficult as so many factors come into play, like the condition of the horn, the area you live in and the demand for the instrument itself. I don't know a lot about the difference between the Canadian and U.S.A. dollars. You may know more than me and you will have to do a conversion. My gut feeling is that a good place to start is what you paid for it. (Maybe you could add a few dollars.)
Currently, here in Sydney Australia, the 6335 is selling for between $2000 and $2400 Aussie dollars, which equates to about $1700 and $2050 American.
In my honest opinion I think the Yamaha trumpets are not quite as good as the Bach, but then I play a Bach so I'm biased. The 6335 would certainly be a good comparison to the top Bach (Stradivarius).
As for age you will have to leave that one with me. The Yamaha serial numbers are a little difficult to find. I think that yours, 201020, is a reasonably recent production, but I will need time to research this. It would certainly be a lot younger than the Besson.
I will send you a summary of the Besson in a separate response when I have done some research on the serial number.
An obvious question to ask is why are you thinking of selling either of these horns? They are both worthy of playing and I am not surprised at the responses you are getting on the older Besson. If your son is playing the trumpet he should be proud to play either of them and even prouder to play both. He has the best of the old and new eras in brass manufacture.
If you have need of any further information you can contact me direct on my email at

I'll be in touch in the next couple of days.
Cheers,
Frankie
