Trumpet - Stripping the silver-

Expert: Troy Laabs - 11/8/2009

Question
I have a silver Holton trumpet and want to darken the sound. Is it possible to strip the silver off of this horn to leave it in a raw brass state or can the silver be coated over with a gold or other coating to achieve this effect?

Answer
Hi,
If you took that Plating off it would darken the sound-
You could also help that with the right mouthpiece(Like a Bach Megatone-
Or a Mouthpiece with more Mass)
Hate to see you have to take the Silver off of this one.
Gold Plating gives you darker sound
