Trumpet - trumpet date and value
Expert: Frankie Bull (Mr.) - 11/8/2009
Question i bought a brass trumpet at a yard sale and it is engraved with fe olds and son. the serial number is 214388.
do you know how i could find out the date and about how much its worth?
Answer Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the question.
My records here shows that your trumpet was made in either late 1955, or early 1956.
I would need more information, like the model and this would either be found at the end of the mouthpiece pipe, or in the bell engaravings. There were quite a few Olds models manufactured over the years. Some are worth much more than others.
As for valuation it is really quite difficult without seeing the instrument in question. I would, though, be interested to know what you paid for it at the yard sale. As a guideline you could always do a search on eBay, but please bear in mind that the prices quoted on eBay are quite often what the seller is happy to get and not what the item is actually worth. Quick sale for quick money.
If you want to pursue valuation further I would need all of the above information and as much as you can give me. Ususally the information is proivided on the instrument, You just may need to read a little harder.
I hope some of this helps,
Cheers,
Frankie
