Trumpet/Holton cornet/trumpet

Question
Mike:  This is a follow up question on my Holton horn-- still not sure if it is a cornet or trumpet. I listed it today on ebay #300314131821 for $199 based on your recommended value estimate.  The horn has some fancy engraving on the top end of bell that is difficult for me to read.  The first line looks like: Thos Clanton Ltd can't make out the 2nd line but looks like: Lobe? Cunudiovn? Agt?, the third line appears to be Toronto.  Does this engraving have any significance on the original owner or the value of the  horn?  Is it a cornet or trumpet.  Thank you for your kind response.   Roger

Answer
Roger, Sorry I was out of town and thought I told the server to not send me questions until I was back. It is a very nice trumpet. The mouthpieces are for trumpet and the smaller is a cornet with an added shank to fit it to a trumpet receiver. The extra engraving is for a music store that imported it to Canada and sold it there. It really doesn't add to the value. It is in wonderful shape and should be easily worth the starting bid. Good Luck!

Expertise

I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in several bands and have many "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 600 with more than 400 on ebay

Experience

I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done work on over 900 horns.
