AboutMike Pawul Expertise I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in five bands and have several "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay
Experience I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Question I have a Holton TR395 MF series super bone. has valves....was my father's who was quite a musician...I want to find a good home for it for a fair price. It's in excellent condition and have seen prices from $4000.00 (new) to $3000.00. Also have a Buescher custom built aristocrat...in excellent condition too....have no idea what it's worth and would like to sell. Thankyou for any quidance you can offer. Norah
Answer Norah, Sorry for the delay but I was out of town and thought I had told the service to not send any questions until I was back. The superbone is fairly rare and the value depends on where and when you sell it. I would try to list it on Trumpet Herald or Trumpet Master since that is where most of the pro players look. As a private sale item it wouldn't usually get as much as if a music store were selling it. So it would be around $2500 in excellent shape. But I would ask $300 or best offer and see what you can get.
The Aristocrat depends on the year made. You can do that from the serial number on the second valve casing by matching to a Buescher serial number list. They rarely sell for more than $300-400 and usually much less. As a collector, the most valuable are from 1930-1950 and the other years go down from there. Anything after about 1968 will be less than $200. Good Luck!
