About Mike Pawul
Expertise
I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in five bands and have several "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay

Experience
I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Organizations
Kosair Shrine Brass Band and Dance Band, The Notables, The Mello Tones, Bourbon City Brass Band, River Cities Concert Band, University of Louisville Community Band, Member of Trumpet Players International Network (TPIN), Bugles Across America (BAA),

Education/Credentials
I played at Brunswick High School. I played through college and have a BS in Business Administration from Trinity College.

Trumpet - transcripts of chet baker solos

Expert: Mike Pawul - 5/25/2009

Question
do you know of any books that have
Transcribed chet baker solos? And have you ever used a
Tape recorder at 1/2 speed in order to learn solos?

Answer
Tom, Sorry for the delay but I had to research this one in depth. Here are some websites with Chet transcriptions:

http://www.jazztrumpetsolos.com/Solos.htm

http://www.shout.net/~jmh/

http://aebersold.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=TRUSOL

http://www.hornplace.com/tptrans028.html

As you can see it isn't cheap to do transcription books. Some people take the time to transcribe on their own. You can use Windows Media Player and do the half speed option. That makes it much easier by slowing the music. Try to do small blocks of 2-4 notes at a time. If you run into difficult passages continue on and come back to it. If you have complex rhythms try singing it to yourself and breaking it down. There is also a commercial program out there called Transcribe. Here is their website: http://www.seventhstring.com/

It runs about the same price as a new video game. Plus it has quite a few features.
