AboutMike Pawul Expertise I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in five bands and have several "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay
Experience I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Question Hi I hope you can help I have been looking for some information about an old trumpet that someone has given to my brother it is engraved with the following:
Lew Davis
Autograph
Foreign
Pat No 485347
King Instrument Co Ltd
London W1
It is nicely engraved and has an extra section. As we know nothing at all about trumpets we would welcome any information at all about the history of this instrument.
Answer Joan, The company King was in business from about WWI through 1950 or so. Though no real information on them still exists. Lew Davis was a great trombone player in the British Big bands of the 1930's. I am not sure why there would be an autograph model trumpet from him though. If it is an autograph model it most likely is a pro level horn. The "Foreign" means it was sold in the UK but not made there.
