Question
Lower valve cap - Henri Selme 1952 trumpet
Lower valve cap - Henr
QUESTION: Mike,
I recently lost the lowe valve cape for my 1952 Henri Selmer trumpet - this cap has the threads on the outside of the cap, not the inside.

Where can I find a replacement. Gold or silver - makes no difference. I', a professional musician and not inclined to vanity.

Thanks in advance,

ANSWER: Arden, Most of the big repair shops should have one. Rich Ita is in your area and should be able to get you one. Here is his website: http://www.brassinstrumentworkshop.com/

On a side note, we need more players like you that aren't prone to vanity. Most players would want it as a perfect match so I give you kudos!

ANSWER: Arden, Send me a message to my email and I will give you my cell. I can order the part but am not sure it is an exact fit. It is a much more modern cap and I want to be sure the size hasn't changed. I need you to give me some measurements to make sure.

Maybe this will help. I used a Calipre that i keep for measuring trumpet bore. The inside measurement of the valve at the cap thread point is 17 mm. The outisde measurement of the cap threads is every so slightly in excess of 17mm.

I'll look forward to hearing form you.If the cap will fit I'll work out some way of pay for it by check or MaasterCasrd..

By way of introduction, I go way back to the 40's during WWII when, as a 16 year old kid, I was on the road with the aBernie Cummins band, the Glen Gray Casaloma Orchestra, and the Frank Marti latin band. Since then I've been in two military bands, and continuous show bands and bigbands, and now working in two big bands in the Atlanta area.

In othewords, I'm olde then dirt.

Thanks, for your help.

Answer
Please send me a note to my private email. They will not let phone numbers go through here. So where you list yours is blank. New fangled contraptions...LOL joke for us older guys! Based on your measurements it should work fine. I'll call you as soon as I get your number to discuss ordering it.

Expertise

I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in several bands and have many "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 600 with more than 400 on ebay

Experience

I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done work on over 900 horns.
