I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay

I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Trumpet - Silver completely Selmer Trumpet Ser#8788

Expert: Mike Pawul - 6/7/2009

Question
I always wanted a Selmer trumpet to play. A friend returned from France with a horn that looks like the L. Armstrong model(from an auction).the ventral side of the lead pipe stamped 23A, valve stems, read 73,74,75(1st to third valve), the valve bodies the same with a C below the number. The upper and lower valve covers also stamped with the above numbers. Bell stamped SELMER PARIS -depose-GRAND PRIX-Geneve 1927LIEGE1930 Selmer(script)4 Place Dancourt Paris MADE IN FRANCE. The middle valve body is stamped below the circled selmer mark with ser.#8788. the horn is in mint condition plating and valves. there is nothing that tells me it is an Armstrong model any info will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Jeffrey, The horn is a standard Grand Prix model. The serial dates it to 1950 from the main Paris factory. Alan Rouse runs a good website dedicated to Selmer horns: http://rouses.net/trumpet/selmer.htm

They are very good playing pro horns and are well thought of by players all around the world.
