Question
How would you rate this trumpet, and what would you pay for a gently used tr600 in good condition.  Only used for 2 years.  My son is going into 9th grade and seems to be taking a genuine interest in trumpet playing. He intends to play in band(s) in high school.

Answer
Suzanne, Sorry for the delay but I had to work 11 days at 12 hours a day and today is my first day off. The TR600 is one of the horns that Back is having made for them overseas. It brings back the Aristocrat name they have from Buescher from the early 1960's. They seem to be made pretty well and play about the same as the TR300 model made in US. The price depends on where you are buying it from. Music stores typically charge higher prices since they figure they have overhead to pay. Private sellers are usually lower but you take a chance of the horn having a problem. Either way try to play it to see if he likes the horn. The range based on wear and where you buy is $200-400. But it would need to be almost perfect to pay the $400 tag.

Expertise

I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in several bands and have many "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 600 with more than 400 on ebay

Experience

I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done work on over 900 horns.
