I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Trumpet - Boosey and Hawkes 400

Expert: Mike Pawul - 7/1/2009

Question
Hi, I have a Boosey and Hawkes 400 cornet to sell, and was wondering what the value would be of it. It's in very good condition with just a few minor scratches, and no dents. The serial number is 0039391, and it was made in the Czech Republic. Also, where would the best place in North-West England to sell? Thank you

Answer
Harriett, The 400 was the bottom student model made by B&H. But it has also been made by other companies. Here is a link for you to review that is a few years old but still contains info you should know to sell it.

Based on the Czech stamp your horn is the Amati model. They weren't very good with sound and intonation. Probably the best place to sell is Ebay. It will give you a wide range of customers and you have a good chance of getting what the horn is worth. Start the bidding low and if you need a certain amount set the reserve at that. Keep in mind it isn't a valuable horn and probably will go between the £50 and £100 listed in the thread if it is in good shape.
