About Mike Pawul
Expertise
I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in five bands and have several "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay

Experience
I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Organizations
Kosair Shrine Brass Band and Dance Band, The Notables, The Mello Tones, Bourbon City Brass Band, River Cities Concert Band, University of Louisville Community Band, Member of Trumpet Players International Network (TPIN), Bugles Across America (BAA),

Education/Credentials

Trumpet - Conn Director trumpet missing slide

Expert: Mike Pawul - 7/2/2009

Question
I did something really stupid and strapped my nice Conn Director Model trumpet to the back of my motorcycle seat.  Smooth slides, the third valve slide fell out.  Playing an old Blessing back up with less than perfect valves.

Question:  Can I find a replacement slide?  Checking the sn against Conn website it was made in 1967.

Thank you most kindly for any assistance you can provide.

Jeff Karns
Enid, Oklahoma

Answer
Jeff, Most repair shops can order a replacement slide for you. Keep in mind it will not be cheap for a new one. The other solution is find someone who has an older beat up Director and buy it to use the slide. Almost all of the 1957-1980 slides are interchangable. You can usually find one on Ebay for less than $50 where a new slide runs close to $100. If you can't find one let me know and I can match you to someone who can order it for you.
