Trumpet - Info on a trumpet mouthpiece, as was informed jet tone mouthpieces are no longer available

Question
Hi Mike,

I read some of the other questions asked on the various topics it was very informative, so I just wanted to clarify if you can, it would be greatly appreciated, as i am not verse much in this area.  I am asking this question on behalf of a friend, he plays in the police band at various functions, is 27 years old and has been playing a while and enjoys playing the trumpet. He was told to get a jet tone trumpet 7c merian mouthpiece or to get a ME Merian E Medium (slightly shallower cup for a more billiant tone and sustained high notes - 24kt gold rim and cup inside diameter is 16.51mm with a medium cup and a 27 throat)(what brand may fit this description?), my cousin inquired about it and was told the jet tone brand was discontinued. This has left him a bit bewildered as to which mouthpiece can be used.  As we have been checking a lot of music stores, but to no avail.   He said it was recommended to him to get a mouthpiece which can be used for high notes, which he can use, should we get a 3c or 7c in the Bach mouthpiece or what other brand do you recommend? I hope this information is helpful and we do await your response, as he really needs to get one as soon as possible.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Cass, Jet Tone has stopped selling mouthpieces for the time being. I was told they went bankrupt and also told they were retooling. So I am not sure what is happening there. Here are a few mouthpiece sizes that are very close matches to the Merian ME.

Bach 2C, Curry 50M, Denis Wick 4C, Schilke 11C2

You should be able to find them pretty easily. I like the Curry and Schilke pieces best because I think they run more consistent from piece to piece than Bach. Wick makes good mouthpieces and would be my next choice before Bach.
