AboutMike Pawul Expertise I am familiar with most trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns. I can answer most questions about playing and musicality. Best of all, if I can't answer it directly I play regularly in five bands and have several "old timers" that are familiar with most things that I am not. I collect, repair, and refinish old horns and have sold over 350 with more than 230 on ebay
Experience I have played since 1965 and studied with many directors and trumpeters. I have been collecting since 2002 and have over 150 horns in my personal collection. I have done repair and refinsh since 2003 and have done over 500 horns.

Question My mother recently gave my 11 yr old son my father's old trumpet. It's quite old and was wondering if you could help me age it? It's a F.E. Olds & Son Super Trumpet with a serial number of 20632. My father was given this trumpet at a young age by his Uncle. My son would like to play it as a concert horn, but before I let him, I'd like to know the age and approximate value. Can you help?
Answer The horn was made about 1946. The Super line is actually quite valuable if it is in good shape. Several of them have gone for $400+ on Ebay. I would not suggest he play it if he is a beginner. It is really a pro type of horn and is a bit more difficult than a student model. Hope that helped!
