Question My father is now deceased and I understand that he most likely had one or two life insurance policies dating from birth or within a year or of of birth. We have no policy papers or definite information about this. I do have the information from his sister about her policies. Their policies would have most likely have been through the same companies. I have tried to contact these companies via Internet but never received a reply, I don't even know if I contacted the correct places. Is there any way to find out if these policies exist and then to collect on them? Thank you so much for your help.
Answer Contacting them via the internet is a start, but the best way is to send a letter about it by certified mail. What are the names of the companies? What is the payout value of the policies? Is his sister still living now? Does your father have a last will and testament that is being probated? With the passage of so much time since your father's date of birth (how old was he when he died), it is very likely that the ownership of the insurance companies could have changed one or more times if they were acquired by other insurance companies. I can do research to see how and when the names changed if you will contact me at my e-mail address, tiekh@yahoo.com
