Trusts & Estates Law/nursing home costs

Question
Can a child be liable for nursing home costs of a parent just because the child has a joint acct with one parent, the non resident of the nursing home.  Child did not sign admission papers, spouse did. Can they go after child's other individual assets?

Answer
Yes, the bank account can be attached because your mother is an owner of the account.

As for other assets, it is unclear what you mean by "child did not sign admission papers, spouse did." That is, did the spouse co-sign as a guarantor or did the spouse just sign for your mother.

Regardless, you should talk to an attorney about this because I presume you don't want a nursing home hounding you in the future.
