U.S. History - Independance

Expert: Michael Troy - 10/13/2009

Question
How did Mexico gaining Independence affect the US?

Answer
Hi Ashlee,

The main effect for the US was that after independence, Mexico could not depend on Spain to defend its territories.  As a result, the US was able to force Mexico to cede large tracts of its territories to the US.

I hope this helps!
