Question 1.) Why were women especially prominent in many 19th century reforms?
2.) Why did the 19th century southern economy remain primarily agricultural while the northern economy grew increasingly diversified.
I know these sound like home work question but there not. I figured if you could answer these questions for me and then tell me which one would have the most information on it I would be very grateful.
Answer It is said that women brought civilization to the world. Women in general, have always been the reformers in society from the very beginning. This is primarily due to their motherhood instincts and the desire for a better society for their children. In 19th century America especially out west, that is, on the frontier, women were a premium and seldom seen. There was an abundance of men, but women were so scarce that in places men would pay a fee just to see a woman.
Thus in order to lure women to the frontier and leave their eastern civilization, concessions had to be made like schools, churches, social organizations, temperance movements, and the right to vote. Yes women were given the right to vote in local and state elections long before 1920.
Since women were still treated as the "fairer sex", they tended to be involved in social issues and thus were in perfect position to initiate reforms.
I hope this helps. Thanks for using AllExperts.com.
