U.S. History/U.S. - Mexico War

Was the U.S. justified in going to war with Mexico?

This a really tough question. You can easily take either position.
Given that Mexico had agreed to borders with the Republic of Texas, then did not honor it.
On technical grounds, then yes it was justified.
Its a close call because Mexico never ratified the agreement and that was made with the Republic of Texas and not the USA, is what makes it a gray area.  No doubt the USA had manifest destiny in mind when the war was launched. Then again the government of Mexico owed the USA a lot of money as well. Both of those played a role. The bottom line is this was a border war. Mexico opted to cross the Rio Grande. No doubt the USA set a trap for Mexico and they bit on it. Now if you ask was this a moral war? No it wasn't.
Here more on the origins.
