Question
Justify the American Westward Expansion of 1840.

Answer
There was no particular event in 1840 that instigated western expansion.   But there were factors present that were also present in the preceding and succeeding years.  People were in search of new farm land for a growing population.  The US realized that if Americans did not claim and occupy western lands, other countries might.
