U.S. History - Confederate money

Follow-Ups to Answer from Expert Michael Troy

Just to set the record straight, Confederate money was never declared legal tender by the CSA congress. It was a hotly debated topic throughout the war. Secretary of Treasury Chris Memminger of the CSA, wrote several letters in opposition to the idea. His two main points were: 1)Since nearly everyone accepted it as legal tender why do we need a law making it such? 2)The people at large were suspicious of money issued by a central government. One of the reasons for succession was fear of a large central government.
