Subject: Castro and Cuba

Question
Our Miami paper is talking a lot about Castro and Cuba. Have you ever read anywhere exactly WHAT we, or Castro, or BOTH, did that made us do all those restrictions against Cuba all these years? I mean, there are other communist countries out there (some really big!). This is such a small island but we seem to make a really BIG deal about it all the time. Confused!

Answer
Well It all statred with the Cuban Missile Crisis, in which Russia sent nuclear weapons to CUba and they started to point them at us.

There are other communist countries but none of them are only 90 miles away. The fact the Communist Cuba has been aggressive towards us and that they are only 90 miles away, makes then a critical interest.

Example: Syria is an aggressive nation, yet we dont do anything to them. But if Syria were to invade Mexico then they become a critical interest. Simpy because they would be at our back door.

And yes, the third reason we make a big deal is because of politics. Both Republicans and democrats want the Cuban vote so they pander to the Cuban people in Miami.
