Question I'm interested in visiting these islands. I like nature trails (especially rain forest), marine animals, culture tours, and am a novice snorkeler. I have a week off in mid-march, which island should I visit? I don't party, go to bars, or play golf.
Answer Hi Louie-
We don't have rain forests in the USVI. I believe there are hiking trails on St.John as well as Hassel Island (right off St.Thomas). Try the official site for www.usvitourism.vi. Two of the best options for snorkeling would be either Trunk Bay in St.John which has a marked underwater snorkeling trail, or Sapphire Beach in St.Thomas. You can rent snorkel gear at both places. Since you're a novice, give Sapphire a shot first. Beautiful snorkeling in as little as 4 feet of water.
From St.Thomas, you can get to St.John via a $5 ferry which is only about a 20 minute ride. On both islands there's a ton of water sports activities you might enjoy such as kayaking, jet skiiing, swimming, etc.
For marine life, you should try Coral World in St.Thomas- www.coralworld.vi. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, just let me know. Have a great time in America's Paradise- the US Virgin Islands!
