Question
My husband and I are two educated professionals who have been faced with a financial devastation due to the housing downturn and our investments went sour.  With that we are left with nothing and awkward credit to put it lightly.  We want to relocate to the USVI and start over, this means liquidating other of our assets and not looking back.  Cash basis with little credit--is there a place for us.

Answer
I'm sorry to hear of your current setbacks.  Just keep in mind that you can and WILL overcome this obstacle.  Just understand that our cost of living here is very high in comparison to anywhere else.  The cost of a gallon of regular gas is $4.00.  Our electric costs are even higher than that of Hawaii.  For a small studio apartment not including water or electricity, will probably run about $900/mo.  Plus you most likely will need first, last & security deposit for most places.  I HIGHLY suggest you check out the website of www.vimovingcenter.com as they are a valuable resource for those considering relocating to our island.  They also have a very active message board where you can pose all your questions and get help.

Please let me know if I can be of further help to you.  Please also keep a positive mind-frame.  Usually all setbacks turn out to be a challenge well worth taking and end up being the BEST thing you ever did!  I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Respectfully,
Susie
