U.S. Virgin Islands - Grocery Stores

Expert: Susie Rano - 3/5/2009

Question
Hi Susie - are there any large grocery stores near Red Hook?  We'll be staying at a condo on Cowpet Bay in early May.  Also, any department stores near Red Hook (Kmart?) as well be looking for a cooler to use in our jeep travels.
Thank you for your time!
John

Answer
Hi John-

There are 2 grocery stores in the Red Hook East End area.  The larger one is Food Center.  There is a smaller one called Marina Market too.  Let me inform you, though, that both of those stores are pretty expensive.  If you are going to have a Jeep rental, (as you mentioned), it would be WELL WORTH the 15-20 minute drive to go to the Tutu area.  Within a 5 minute drive from each other, are three very large grocery stores: Plaza Extra, Cost-U-Less, and Price Smart.  Next to Plaza Extra in the Tutu Mall, is a KMart.  There are no department stores in the Red Hook area.

I hope this helps.  Have a great time in St.Thomas.

Regards,
Susie
