U.S. Virgin Islands - Moving to USVI, a little help?

Expert: Susie Rano - 4/10/2009

Question
Hi Susie, I'm seriously thinking about relocating from the states to USVI, probably St. Thomas.
I'm 23 a y/o musician with a minor in business and want to be around a good nightlife scene. I figure the only job I will be able to get is in food and bev or hospitality, am I right? Also a good golfer, maybe I could work on a course?
Anyway I'm having trouble finding a good web site or realtor for a rental to live in. I've found nothing but vacation rentals.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Jack-  If you're a musician, you could probably check with the local places that hire bands/musicians to see if they might be interested in having you play at their establishments.  Such places would be The Greenhouse and Duffy's Love Shack.  Of course you would probably need more income to help you so you might consider working in a restaurant or in sales perhaps.  We do have a popular golf course which is Mahagony Run so you might also want to see what they might have available in position possibilities.

Since you are considering relocating, I strongly suggest you check out the website www.vimovingcenter.com.  They have a very active message board so you can post questions and also look for a place to live.  You may also want to check out www.virginislandsdailynews.com which is the website for our local newspaper. Another website for local info would be www.sts.onepaper.com.  Both of these website offer local news as well as classifieds, etc.

Best of Luck to you and let me know if I can be of more help.  Happy Easter!

Respectfully,
Susie
