U.S. Virgin Islands - Living in St. Thomas; St. John

Question
Hi.   I am a 51 year-old female looking to move to St. Thomas or St. John.   I would maybe like to open a bar or some small business.   I want the simple life to live out my years.   I hear the prices for housing is high.   I would need very little.  Also, would my dog be allowed to come with me?    I am looking for a place not near town - somewhre secluded.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Cheryl-

Of course you would be able to bring your pet.  I believe you need to have him checked out by your vet and have a health paper signed, 24-48 hours prior to departure.  I recommend you verify this with your local vet.  Also, you would have to check with the airlines as to pricing, etc.  There is a new airline just for pet travel- www.petairways.com, I think is the name.

St.John is considerable more expensive to live, both for housing/rent, as well as groceries.  Although St.Thomas & St.John are both small islands, there are quite a number of places to live, "away from town." For St.Thomas you may want to live in the Northside which is one of the quieter sections.

Since you are considering relocating, highly suggest you check out www.vimovingcenter.com.  There is a ton of info on that site for people wishing to move here.  They also have a very active message board where you can post & read many questions by locals and get more help.

Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

Respectfully,
Susie
