U.S. Virgin Islands - Living in USVI as Fulltime Employee

Expert: Susie Rano - 6/20/2009

Question
I'm considering fulltime professional employment in USVI with an engineering company, but I know very little about USVI culture and standards of living. Can you tell me how to best investigate relocating to USVI, avoiding tourist traps, and getting the best value in housing and services? My wife and I are seasoned travelers throughout the U.S. and some foreign countries. We are both avid writers and enjoy the outdoors very much. If we relocate to USVI, we will bring our pet dog (lhasa apso). Thanks, in advance, for your answer. God bless you!

Answer
Hi Randy-  The fact that you would already have a secure job here in the USVI, is WONDERFUL!  It also sounds like a promising one, too.  The best advice I can give you and your wife since you are considering relocating, is to visit the website- www.vimovingcenter.com

The site offers a wealth of info for people who want to move here.  Also, they have a very active message board so you can post questions such as rentals, cars, getting around, etc.

As for your pooch, I THINK you need to have him checked by your vet, 24-48 hours prior to arriving/leaving.  I highly recommend you confirm this with your local vet.

I wish you and your wife, (and pooch), all the best in your future endeavors.

Respectfully,
Susie
