Question
I am currently living and teaching in new york city. im doing research on relocating to st.thomas. can you tell me what the teaching salaries are like on the elementary and middle school level?what is the quality of life like for teachers on the island. what kind of home can a teacher typically afford to buy there and still live comfortably? thanks

Answer
I really don't know what the teaching salaries are. You would need to contact the Department of Eduction on St. Thomas.

I can tell you that it is rather expensive to live on St. Thomas. Since they do not grow or export anything, everything on the island is brought in. That makes it more expensive.

The houses are as expensive as living in any large city in the US. Other costs are similar also. The only real difference is that you won't pay any more heating costs. Although if you don't like hot weather that much, you may run an air-conditioner which can be just as expensive.

Hope this helps.

Fran
