About Barbara
Expertise
I can answer questions on WHAT that thing was you saw in the sky, and WHAT happened to that missing 20 minutes while driving home, and just basic UFO questions. I can help eliminate the 90% that really is something explainable. Also work for www.badalien.org

Experience
I know the "Bad Astronomer" who is a real astonomer and an author. I have access to many experts who have studied enough UFO cases to know what is "out there". So, any question you have, I can find someone that can try to answer it. I've also read all the Phillip Klass books, which I highly reccomend, and also the most recent Government Roswell report. Also check out www.badalien.org where I also work.

UFOs/Aliens - things i saw

Question
I have 3 different things I have seen that maybe you can help with. The first was several years ago.I was in my back yard looking at the sky for whatever reason it was.I saw 3 things side by side. When they moved it was just so fast and then they just stopped and stayed in the sky where they at for a little then zoomed back to where I had first seen them. They did this several times and finally I went in to find someone else to see it and when I came back they were gone.
the second was just after New years a few years ago.It was about 12:30 am and i was going to pick my husband up from work.I saw a LARGE almost oval green almost like a traffic light green shape coming down over some trees behind my neighbors house.I watched it until it disappeared. At first i thought it might be left over fireworks but it didn't make any sound and the shape never changed. It stayed solid and almost oval in form from the time i first saw it until it went down into the trees.
and third also from my back yard.My sister called me one night and asked if I had been looking at the stars.(I do that a lot) She told me I should look out over my sons house because there was something there she couldn't make out.Just that it had different lights moving on it and it wasn't moving.I got my binoculars and watched it for about 20 minutes. It stayed in place not moving but there like 2 or  3 different colored lights that revolved around the main part of whatever it was.i don't know how long it was there because when I went in it was still there in the same spot.
So do you have any idea what those things were? Thanks in advance.

Answer
The problem with these sightings is the problem all people investigating UFOs have to deal with.  Those are three UFOs that are different.  UFOs come in so many shapes, sizes, noises, colors....it makes it very difficult to decide what is something "normal" and what is worth really doing more study about.

I would think that all 3 can't be something terribly abnormal, or indeed, perhaps all 3 have a very terrestrial in nature explanation.  Even the most die hard alien based UFO fanatic admits that only perhaps 2-5% of what is reported is extraterrestrial in nature.

However, what even the US government admits, there are many aircraft (including balloons and helicopters and secret aircraft designs) that people commonly see during the night hours.

Add in pranksters and it's a mess to figure stuff out.

From what my experts can tell the second one sounds like a dropped flare.  They can be oval and are silent and can be dropped from a great height without anyone knowing about it.  The first one we can't really tell, but the triangle shape is very commonly reported.  Three lights makes that one well worth noting.  Though what it is, we can't be sure of.

The lights revolving and staying in one place is probably not something mysterious simply because it was there so long, probably a lot of people say it(Not sure where you are located) and no military or other aircraft showed up.  Usually people call the police to come check on unknown lights.  So I'm thinking someone must have called.  Where I live the police once responded to a mysterious light they to this day can not explain.  The police don't mind being called if you do see something strange (could be an aircraft in trouble, who knows?).  I'm just passing that on as people are often reluctant to call.  Such a long time suggests to me that someone knew what it was!  (if you live far out in the country though, that could be wrong on my part).

Your first sighting as a child is the one that is most like the UFOs that are unexplained, so that is very exciting.  The others, while difficult to explain (helicopter, balloons, advertising of some sort) are rare but perhaps not so in keeping with other reports of "unknowns".

Please let me know if you see the lights (any of them!) again and where you live.  That's very important in identifying a UFO.

I hope this helps.  Also, try to snap a photograph, you never know it might be just what is needed to identify it (even if it is a bad photograph!).  And call the police (perhaps not 911 but instead the local number).  They are very nice, and honestly, as long as you say "I don't know what it is" instead of "it's aliens invading!" they will gladly check it out because as I said, it could be an aircraft or someone in trouble.  Once a UFO turned out to be lights of someone lost on a mountain (at night, the mountain was black, and the lights appeared to be in the sky).  When someone reported the UFO the person was saved from spending a cold night on the mountain lost.

Thanks for sharing.  I'm so glad to read that you look at the stars a lot.  That makes your descriptions better.  People that aren't used to looking at the sky often see unfamiliar things (like space debris passing overheard) and are confused in their descriptions.
