UK Autos/Starting Problem on a MG Midget

Hi there I have a problem with my 1973 MG Midget 1275cc engine for some reason the car will not start at all, I have checked to see if I am getting a spark at all 4 spark plugs which I am. There used to be a ticking noise from the back of the car when I turned on the ignition but now it has stopped and I have been having this problem since the ticking stopped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David,
The ticking noise is your was your fuel pump as on the MG Midget it is electric and comes on when you switch on the ignition, unfortunately I can not remember what side of the car the pump is on but I know it is under the Midget around the rear wheel arch area.

The problem could be electrical as I know the contacts that the wires go on to get dirty if it is not that then it will be the points inside the pump it's self.

Mechanical, Servicing, Restoration, Parts for Vintage and Classic cars mainly British Vintage and Classic cars, donít know much about modern electronic systems in newer cars but do have a lot of knowledge about Vintage and Classic cars and cars up to the late 90's.

I have growing up around Vintage and Classic cars my whole life and used to help my uncle service and repaired them since 1992. After i left school i did my apprenticeship in mechanics starting in 1998 and stopped doing mechanics in 2003 due to a slipped disc in my back. By the age of 13 i could strip and rebuild engines and gearboxes for 20's, 30's and 50's cars that my uncle used for weddings i could also service them as well then my uncle would check to make sure everything was done right. Please Note my expert area is mainly on Vintage and Classic Cars up to 1990.
