Question Hi Tony FOLLOW UP AND CURE
You may remember some months ago that I wrote about the bad starting of my
PEOGEUT 405 DEISEL CAR. Things were now getting worse with the engine stalling at low revs etc.
You were most helpful and gave me a whole page of things to try, which I did, unfortunately nothing helped. I was determined to sort it out and I would not give up.
I phoned the local AA service garage and said (we have a problem Houston) but they did not wont to know, but recommended Panda Fuels in Fareham. They were fantastic and gave me another list of things to try, before bringing it in, one of which was to fit a transparent pipe between the fuel filter and engine. This showed a lot of air being sucked in at the filter end, so I fitted a new hand pump diaphragm at the top as it was possible that this may have been perforated (£10) and guess what, no change the air was still steaming in! So I crawled under the car in mid January to look for a damaged main fuel pipe but still nothing looked out of place!
By this time you can imagine that I was getting more than a bit wound up and the car battery was getting a hell of a battering. With pressure from her indoors, I finally gave up, with great reluctance I took Reggie (the car) into Panda Fuels to sort out.
They were great and made a number of further suggestions one of which was that there could be an air leak at the fuel heater connection Heater I said what heater, apparently Peugeot are only one of two carmakers to fit one! And so this was the problem, it was by passed and £123 lighter all was well again, backs to first time starting again and a happy family.
By the way my manual (Haynes) does not Evan mention a heater. O did I mention the trip to the breakers, they said it was the fuel primer / filter they usually packed up at about 100,000, fortunately they did not have one.
I thought this would be useful information for you to store.
Regards Martin.
Answer Nice one Martin, guess I have been out of it for to long , clean forgot about the heater, or heat exchanger, because it only heats the fuel passing through after the engine is warm of course. Fortunately they stopped fitting them to later models, at least in that position , under the rear drivers side of the engine. Anyway stay cool . Take care.
