Question Hi Tony
85000miles 2 litre zetec . when cold very noisy for about 10 mins. then sometimes it goes much quieter and pulls well.Other times remains very noisy all day (like a severe pink but on throttle off when changing gear).No white smoke, a bit of black on heavy acceleration.basically it appears to be an intermittent problem but frustrating as to whether its mechanical or electronic.

Answer Hi Trevor, had no experience with that engine, the electronic stuff became more widely used used after I finished with Lucas. Although i can suggest a possible EGR exhaust gas recirculaation valve. but most serious faults should put the engine man light on. A good respectable diesel shop would be the answer. sorry for lack of info.
