Subject: Escort TD 1994 105,000mls Fuel Heater?

Question
Hi Tony,
I've owned this car a month, it starts and runs fine at the moment.
When inspecting under the bonnet i noticed a loose, unconnected small plastic box just in front of the fuel filter. With the help of a haynes manual i've indentified this part as the fuel heater. It looks like a previous owner has simply bypassed it. The question is..
Should i try to reconnect/replace/repair the fuel heater, or will it make no difference to winter running?
(i live in Kent, UK, it rarely drops below -5'.)
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Dave.

Answer
Hi Dave , yes you are right it is a fuel heater, no you will not benefit from it as it is for warming fuel when car is running, not that much of improvement that you would notice. Besides which the last owner prob disconnected because of air related problems which were very common on that heater. Hope this helps.
Regards
Tony
