Question Hi there - I have a 1991 Peugeot 405 GR (carburettor) - I have been trying to trace the source of petrol fumes which waft into the car when driving , especially when the windows are down , and noticeable when I stop at the traffic lights.
There is some sign of slight leakage from the gasket between the body and lid of the carburettor - but not much - (I had the carburettor rebuilt because the throttle shaft was worn, and there seemed to be leaking fuel onto the manifold, this has stopped that leakage, but has not really cured the fumes problem).
I have also fitted a 'venting hose' onto the 2 cm stump of the vent that sticks out near the top of the carburettor float chamber (this hasnt really solved the problem either).
I see that fuel injection is really your specialty, but any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Julian
Answer Hi julian, well this is a hit and miss one really, any visible signs of petrol leakage will give a strong vapour smell when warm.Is your vehicle running to rich, or is the smell coming from petrol tank vent. difficult to say I am sorry. Not something i have come across. sorry to be of little help.
