Subject: E-mail (trying to use outlook express)

Question
I work out of town, I have a cable modem at home, we use Adelphia cable internet.  I have no problem using Microsoft outlook at home.  I have a laptop at work that I access my e-mail from, I have to use a webpage from Adelphia to access my e-mail.  The webpage is very limited with regard to use etc.  I have been trying to set up outlook express here at work.  Being that Adelphia does not have dial up, I have to use Walmart internet service here at work.  Do you know why Walmart does not provide their outgoing and incoming ISP address?  I would assume it is because they wont you to use their webpage etc.  In order to use outlook, what do I have to Have?  I am thinking that I need the ISP addresses for incoming and outgoing for my internet provider..  Can you please help me understand what  I need to know in order to use outlook express with my laptop at work.  I have a adelphia e-mail address.

Hopefully not too confusing.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Chris

Work servers are usually very limited because of security. They will have a filter which stops alot of things coming in or going out.

It helps stop you installing programs that could be dangerous or potentially transmit viruses or open the work network to hackers. Outlook is probably locked or partially locked and other programs will be aswell.

Work servers tend to not let much services or programs work there is very little you can use on work servers apart from the things that are part of your work.

In short the security will be stopping you getting access.

I'd ask one of the network admin's if they can unlock it for you thats if they are allowed to unlock it. It might be against company rules.

hope that helps
