Subject: HD DVD & Blu-ray

Question
What is the difference between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray technologies?

Answer
Hi Matt

Well blue ray is a different type of laser from the usual. red lasers are what's usually on your DVD (4.7GB) discs.

the new blue ray is a thinner laser which means that the files stored on the disc can be more tightly packed meaning more space.

the short answer is blue ray will be able to hold more data than the old DVD discs.

the HD DVD uses a similar thinner laser.

HD DVD  has a capacity of 15 GB and 30 GB
Blu-ray has capacity  of 25 GB and 50 GB.

It's basically two ideas that are very similar and the two are fighting over which one the world backs.

It's a bit like Super Disc and Multimedia CD used to be two similar ideas then they became one called DVD after some fighting.

so HD DVD and blu-ray will probably join together to become one thing or maybe not you may end up with them going there separate ways like VHS videos and the old beta max videos.

Of course only VHS videos exist now beta max died so you might end up with only HD DVD or only blu-ray it depends one people buy more or which one the big companies like :
Disney Paramount, New Line Cinema, MGM, FOX choose.
