Question Hi Craig,
Just a quick question for you... just tonight I found in "my documents" hundreds of IDX files, all 1kb in size and all seem to have appeared on the same day.
What the hell is a IDX file? Do I need to keep it? can I delete it?
Hope you can help me, my trouble is I only know just enough about confusers to get me into trouble so I dont like deleting stuff without asking someone like you first.
Thank you for your time...
Ray P
Answer Hi Ray
A IDX file is short for index file it's used by alot of programs, Usually mail programs like AOL, Outlook.
I had lots of IDX files before, they are sometimes linked to things you need but also they can be linked to adware or worms. So answer is depends on what the IDX file belongs to. usually there just part of some cache of temp files taking up space.
A good rule for deleting things your not sure of is this:
1. put them in the recycle bin
2. restart your computer or use your computer for a while and if nothing has gone wrong
3. Delete them permanently from your recycle bin
4. if something goes wrong then restore them back to there original location.
i usually follow the above procedure for files im not sure about deleting.
