Expert: Craig Thomson Date: 12/2/2006 Subject: Problem accessing .co.uk sites
Question Hi, I have a problem accessing .co.uk sites only. Whenever you try to get a co uk site you are directed to another site (for instance you can get ebay.com not ebay.co.uk) usually advertising porn The sites seem to originate from either qgb10.hpwis.com or bxnu.com, any reference to them in the registry has been deleted but the problem remains.
I have run Ad-ware, Spybot, Windows Defender, Norton AV,still to no avail.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks Louyee
Answer hi louyee
it definitely sounds like spyware or adware , try spyware doctor and see if it finds anything.
Failing that restore your computer back to a point before this started happening using system restore.
it's some type of browser hijacker thats hijacked your internet explorer or whatever browser you use. these usually get downloaded with other programs.
trend micro do a very good free online scanner.
you can find it at: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ this might get rid of the problem.
Some browser hijacks can be a nightmare to get rid of. You could check add and remove programs and see if anything pops up in the list that you didn't install that you think might be the program responsible and uninstall it.
Also if your brave you could look at the programs running in windows task manager and see if you can see the problem program in the list however to do this you need to know what programs are normally running so its more of an expert approach, however if you locate the .exe file name thats responsible then use search to find it on your hard disk and delete it manually.
