Question

The text above is a follow-up to ...

-----Question-----
I cannot see my minimized programs on the taskbar. Can you help? When I disable all the toolbars on the taskbar (such as addresses) the taskbar disappears completely.
-----Answer-----
Hi Kristian

Sounds like you have the auto hide taskbar switched on
heres how to fix this:

move your mouse over the space where the taskbar used to be.
right click and choose properties
un tick auto-hide the taskbar , then click apply and ok
that should solve the problem.

If it still does it then you may have a virus or other rogue program causing this try using a good virus scanner to find and get rid of the program.

hope that helps

It's not autohide, as I can see it when I haven't got my cursor over the taskbar. I cannot see my minimized programs, but I can see the quick launch.

Answer
Hi Kristian

there is two reasons i can think of as to why this might be happening.

(1) A virus or similar program has done this to your taskbar.

(2) one of the windows system files is missing or corrupt like taskman.exe you find these in windows/system32 folder.

Try a virus scan to see if theres a virus doing this. Some viruses can stop parts of windows working correctly.

Next if that doesn't work try running system file checker. To do this go into start----->Run then type  sfc /scannow into the box and click ok. That should replace any missing files.

also you might have installed a program that changes the way your windows looks like windows blinds. The ones that put a skin over your existing windows these if you don't uninstall there properly can cause problems like the task bar going funny.

If all else fails try reinstalling windows but don't reformat first that sometimes replaces missing files and if that fails do a system reformat you might want to get help doing this but only do it as a last resort and make sure you back up all the stuff you don't want to lose.

Hope that helps
from craig.
