Expert: Craig Thomson Date: 9/11/2006 Subject: I cannot enable cookies for some sites
Question Dear Craig. I hope that this question isn't a waste of your time but it's foxed me.
I use Internet explorer 6 and Windows XP. I used to use windows 98 until I got my new computer a few months ago. The Windows firewall is disabled because I use Zone Alarm.
My problem is that some sites (e.g. British Airways) require you to enable cookies before they will work. I usually keep the slider in IE on High but in the past I've always used the "view privacy report" feature to allow cookies from specific sites.
Unfortunately with British Airways and 1 or two other sites (especially football sites) this doesn't work. I keep getting the error message "please enable cookies".
I tried BA site again after putting the cookie slider to its lowest possible setting but this still didn't work. Again I got the "please enable cookies"
Obviously something is stopping them but I have no idea what. Can you help please?
Many thanks
John
Answer
Hi john
Zone alarm tends to block stuff its not supposed to like perfectly good sites. I think it might be Zone alarm causing the problem.
I no longer use zone alarm myself because of this problem, Which is a shame because it is great at blocking the dodgy sites just it tends to block the good ones as well.
I'd try uninstalling zone alarm and see if that fixes the problem , but keep the installer handy in case it wasn't zone alarms fault so you can install it again.
also check there's no viruses or spyware messing with your cookie settings.
