Question I hope to enter the University of Liverpool and study Civil Eng. (MEng). The thing is in order to be a chartered engineer I have to do Master of Engineering degree (MEng) and not bachelor degree (BEng). The question I'm asking is this - can I still go into other types of jobs with an MEng degree e.g. business, if I decide I don't want to be a civil engineer afterwards?
Answer In short, yes you can.
A BEng degree is still a very valid and respected degree, but the MEng is slightly higher in quality and prestige, and therefore that is why you need it to get into chartered engineering. Since this is the higher quality degree, you will find that it will open the door to many other areas too. In fact, if you and someone else are shortlisted for a job, and you have an MEng, then you are actually at an advantage!
