Subject: ebay and paypal

Question
Hi I probably sound stupid but i've never done this sort of thing before, as i'm only just 18. I opened an Ebay account and decided to use paypal to pay for things as it looked easiest but it is so complicated. I think I'm on the right track; I have given them my bank details and they put money in my account; I then said how much they put in and they now say, 'You may make payments from your bank account without adding funds to your PayPal balance.'

I take it this means I can pay directly from my bank account without having to put anything in my paypal account? now if I want to buy anything from Ebay what will happen when they ask me to pay? I know this sounds stupid but I really am new to this and I'm worried I'll do something wrong and not pay and get in trouble or something.
Thanks for your patience!

Answer
Firstly, don't worry! I gather from your question that you already have a PayPal account which is all you require to pay for items on eBay using PayPal.

When you have won an eBay item and you decide to pay via PayPal, you can either pay using your PayPal balance or by allowing PayPal to take the sum due from your registered debit/credit card/bank account. Either way, PayPal deal with the payment.

When the message said that you may make payments without adding funds, all that means is that your card/bank has now been verified and so you can pay for eBay item using your bank account/card, but through PayPal, so that the eBay seller does not need to know you card/bank details - all they know about the transaction is your e-mail address.

Hope that clears it up for you, if not then just ask me again.

Scott.
