Question Are there any different laws to selling used cars privately in Scotland? I am from London and the cars for sale in Scotland seem much cheaper.

Trading Standards legislation is UK-wide.
Take someone who knows about cars with you before you even consider buying a car.
Do not buy without comparing the chassis plate numbers against the V5 (vehicle registration document).
Don't buy a car until you've been able to get a good look at its paint finish when dry (water can be used to 'hide' bad paintwork.
Look for overspray on windows/handles/light clusters (sign of cheap repair).
Look for any badly-fitting body panels or creases in the boot floor.
Look along the side and door panels for badly pushed out dents.
Check driver's seat and foot pedals and interior in general for excessive wear/tear (sign of a hard-driven car, like a private-hire taxi).
Look for blue exhaust smoke.
The car mechanic friend you take with you will know a lot more to look for!
