Subject: UK Spousal visa

Question
My husband is a Uk citizen and I am from the US.  I will be applying for a visa the latter part of this year.  Two questions - does the embassy perform a backgroud check when I apply or go strictly on the documents provided in the application package?  I know I can work on a visa - do I apply straight away for the NI number or does that come with application for settlement?  Would providing credit history from the US be something to include in the visa application package?  And how can I find out what exactly to put into the visa application package?

Answer
Hi Virginia
The Embassy do not check background unles they have some cause to do so. Simply provide all of the information that they require in the application package. There is no need to supply them with a credit background, after all that will change when you go to the UK. You will have different employment for example.
The NI number is applied for in the UK either by the first employee or if you will not be employed from the local employment exchange.
Hope all goes well
Brian
